If you are thinking about heading Hyden for the weekend - you still can. There are still weekend and day tickets available and you can purchase them on the gate.
see you there!
Hello Soul Highway brothers and sisters!
Our 3rd Wave Rock Weekender is here and we’re psyched!
As one of our new extended event family we are sending this stuff to you to make sure you know what to do and where everything is and how everything works.
We are trying really hard to build a truly boutique festivals with low capacity and an authentic camping adventure with the added benefits offered by the iconic location and an inspiring mix of people, bands, DJs and film.
Please also help us achieve this by staying cool all weekend – respecting others and not stiffing us on BYO rules etc so we can keep coming back.
We try to foster a sense of freedom so help us keep fencing to a minimum and security hassles to a minimum by wearing your compulsory tamper-proof wristband at all times and again respecting the BYO rule. We are respecting you at the bar with proper poured drinks, quality mixers & fruits and keeping cold fizzy pints to $5 and low prices options all around to make compliance fair and easy. Sweet!
In case you missed it in all the excitement we are also aiming to be Australia’s best festival in relation to environmental outcomes.
We have some excellent event partners assisting us with a range of initiatives which seek to minimise emissions, minimise waste and then to maximise waste recovery (ie minimise landfill) and to neutralise all the carbon emissions created by the activity of patrons, staff and artists including travel. You play an important part in some of these initiatives so please read the Waste Management section so you know how to help make sure litter that can be composted or recycled ends up in the right place.
If you need anything at all on the weekend our festival HQ at the end of the bar in the main tent where we will be selling emergency supplies, Soul Highway merchandise, snacks and can help you with any issues you have. You should also make friends with your camp monitors.
Staff will also be wearing red or orange sweatbands
Weather Report
It’ll be fine most of the weekend but very very bitey at night so please bring very warm clothes and blankets. We have at least one very large fire that runs all night run by local hero Denis – king of the Mallee fire..
Saturday Clearing shower 3/20°C
Sunday Mostly sunny 5/24°C
General Layout
A site map is downloadable from the website (www.soulhighway.com.au).
The camping area and main stage are in the caravan park alongside Wave Rock. Across the road from the caravan park on the opposite side from the rock is the café and cinema. From the rock itself through the camping, past the central ablutions and the main stage and then across the road to the cinema and cafe is about 200m in a straight line so it’s easy navigate your way around. At night here’s how it works:
A path South from the ablution block in the middle of the park to the rock will be a lit trail.
A path North from the ablution block in the middle of the park and across the road to the café and cinema will also be lit so you can get to the cinema.

A timetable for all music & film is below but also posted at the bar and around the show.

Ticket Pickups/Mailouts
Have you got your tickets? If you’re not sure how you chose to get them, check your receipt or call us on the number below.
If you chose to have them posted to you should have them by now.
Look out for the postie or the card in your letterbox.
Call us before the end of the day Friday if you have any concerns or haven’t got your tickets.
If you’re picking them up, you can come into our office this week from 11am– 6pm to get them ((20/663 Newcastle St, Leederville (orange building).
If you can’t get to the office because you live regionally, we will take your tickets to the show with us but please let us know.
Waste Management
We’re trying to minimise the waste the show generates, and the amount that ends up in landfill, and we need your help. ONLY use the bin stations for litter and please take pride in using them correctly.
Ask staff for help if you need it, and separate your rubbish like this:
Green Marked Bin Compostable – includes ALL our bar and café drink cups and food containers (which are fully biodegradable/compostable) plus food waste, and wet paper and cardboard.
Orange Marked Bin Recyclable – includes clean paper, cardboard, plastic, our personal ashtrays (empty), glass, aluminium and steel cans.
Red Marked Bin Other – includes ceramics, dirt, chemicals, rubber, and cigarette butts.
It is best if you put your rubbish straight in the bins, but we’ll also give you personal ashtrays and fully biodegradable cornstarch bags as you come in, and you can get them at the Café all weekend. Please don’t drop stuff on the ground, Wave Rock weeps sad stony tears when you litter. Try to avoid bringing in or buying packaged products while you are in Hyden. All the food and drink from the bar, café, and vendors will be sold in compostable containers.
If you’re really excited about helping with waste management, you can visit environmental expert Dr Harrie at the central waste facility and watch our waste audit in action – this will give us data to help us improve our practices from year to year. He has a cool glass crusher he might let you have a go of, you can look sexy helping out the planet, and he can tell you stories about everyone’s rubbish.
Entry Procedure
When you arrive, your car or our Wave Rock Coach will be met on Wave Rock Road at the Festival Checkpoint, and you’ll need to present your event, camping and car tickets. We’ll swap you for our fashionable show wristbands which need to be put on immediately and worn all weekend.
You will need a wristband to access the site and any services on site.
We’ll tell you where to drop you camping gear and where park if you have a car, and get you to your camp site.
You won’t be able to park next to your camp site, so you’ll need to get your stuff out at this point.
Staying In Touch
The Wave Rock Kiosk (not our café) in the Camp Ground has a public phone and internet terminal so you can call and tell your Mum you got to the show safely and make your city friends jealous about how much fun you’re having. Normal mobile telephones do not work past Corrigin. Each camp zone also has a blackboard or noticeboard out the front so you can leave messages for your friends.
Fun Activities
Other than a killer music and film program, there are other fun things to do in the Hyden area. The Wave Rock Visitors’ Centre is located on the left-hand side of the Café, and they can give you info during the day. You can buy postcards and spoons and stuffed kangaroos there too if you like. If you want to get a group together to go somewhere and you need transport or our help come see us at the info end of the main bar.
Here are a few must do’s:
Ask about the special therapeutic gypsum salt pool alongside Lake Magic. It’s 4 times saltier than sea water and makes you feel 10 years younger.
One of the staff has tested it out nude under a full moon and gives it 5 stars (except for the pickling effect).
Play a board game or card game in the café – strip poker is allowed in the country.
Go for a bush walk – around the Rock in the early morning, Hippo’s Yawn for a lunch time picnic (1.3km walk), Lake Magic at sunset (1.2km walk) – take it easy and breathe deep.
Don’t forget to look at the stars this weekend – you’re far from the lights of the city and you might see something you’ve never seen before. This is one of the best stargazing areas in Australia
Respecting Wave RocK
The Wave Rock Weekender event site is in a very special place in the world. The amazing and unique rock formation has existed for about 2700 million years, and the area is home to special and sensitive native plants and animals. The Nyungar people are the traditional custodians of this land. Please look after all areas of the site, be careful in the bush, put your rubbish in the right bins, and show your respect for the beautiful place we’re lucky enough to be having a party in this weekend. Again,,,no personal fires, no BYO and please use all the bins very carefully and ask staff or the waste team if you are unsure.
Safe Travelling
If you’re driving, travel safely. The Brookton Hwy from Perth is a good road with some narrow bits close to Hyden. If you are going the right way from Perth you should drive through Brookton, Corrigin and Kondinin.
The speed limit is generally 110km/h. Go easy, stop for breaks, and be nice to other people on the road.
